Who ya gonna call?

Halloween was last Sunday, but Sam Darnold is still telling ghost stories, apparently: Just around two years after after his now-infamous “seeing ghosts” line in a game vs. the Patriots, the dead rose again.

NFL DRAFT 2022: Who leads our QB rankings?

The Patriots trounced the Panthers 24-6 on Sunday and it was another afternoon of paranormal — well, increasingly normal — activity for the Carolina quarterback, with a ghastly 16-of-33, 173-yard, three-interception line in the loss.

Carolina head coach Matt Rhule wasn’t happy with the QB’s performance.

“I don’t want to lay it all on one guy, but we can’t keep throwing the ball up in the air,” Rhule said following the game. When asked if he believes Darnold is still the team’s QB1, he said: “We can’t keep doing that.”

And Rhule wasn’t the only one disappointed with his starter: Following Darnold’s third INT, wide receiver Robby Anderson was seemingly very peeved with the fourth-year QB, yelling at him on the sideline.

In Darnold’s last four games vs. the Patriots, he has thrown nine interceptions and his teams are 0-4. He has a single touchdown to those picks.

His three interceptions Sunday were of the worst variety, too.

The first was a bad red-zone INT on a less-than-pretty throw that went the other way for six:

The second was a nice play by linebacker Jamie Collins, who read Darnold and snagged the ball off the rip:

The third was the backbreaker: in the end zone, again to J.C. Jackson, on a force.

In all, Darnold has thrown seven touchdowns to 11 interceptions this season — not exactly the return the Panthers wanted to get when they picked up his fifth-year option and shipped a second-, fourth- and sixth-round pick to the Jets for him.

While the Panthers may stick with Darnold solely because of his 2022 contract number, it looks as if the sands to figure out his standing as an NFL quarterback are just about thinned out.
