The Rams came into the year as one of the teams most heavily favored to win the 2022 Super Bowl. They’ve only been building on the hype since.

The team announced Thursday that they had signed Odell Beckham Jr., the star wide receiver waived by the Browns on Monday.

Beckham joins what might be the most talented team in the NFL and a team that is seemingly improving by the week. On top of being 7-2, the Rams acquired linebacker Von Miller from the Broncos at the trade deadline and are expecting him to make his Los Angeles debut on Monday.

Now, the question will be whether Beckham makes his Rams debut on Monday as well.

Why did Odell Beckham Jr. sign with the Rams?

According to an earlier report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beckham wanted to spend the rest of the season with a playoff contender. Joining the Rams will certainly check that box.

The Rams lead the NFL with 3,594 total yards of offense and are tied for second with the Buccaneers at 6.3 yards per play. Most of that yardage has been through the air, as Matthew Stafford leads the NFL with 2,771 passing yards. He’s second with 23 passing touchdowns.

FANTASY: Waiver wire watchlist

While Beckham figures to make an impact in Los Angeles, it is unclear how many targets he should expect to receive. The Los Angeles receiving room is crowded, with Cooper Kupp leading the NFL with 74 receptions, 1,019 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. On top of that, Robert Woods is 20th in the NFL with 45 receptions and 22nd with 556 receiving yards.

Beckham’s signing also comes shortly after the team waived DeSean Jackson, who was reportedly frustrated over a lack of playing time in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Beckham was released by the Browns after his relationship with the team soured over his usage in the offense. After recording 390 receptions — 44 for touchdowns — with 5,476 receiving yards in 59 games with the Giants, Beckham hauled in just 114 passes — seven for touchdowns — for 1,586 yards in 29 games with the Browns. Beckham missed nine games in 2020 and the first two games of the 2021 season as he recovered from a torn ACL suffered in his second year in Cleveland.

Following his final game in Cleveland, his father, Odell, posted a video to Instagram showing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield missing passes to his son during their time playing together.

Will Odell Beckham Jr. play on Monday?

There has been no word yet as to whether Beckham will be available to play against the 49ers. While the Rams have announced the signing on their site, he is not currently listed on the team’s unofficial depth chart, nor their latest injury report.
